Cast Iron Chef is one of the Webelos’ requirements. We did fire safety training as well.

12 inch dutch oven. This is typical size for outdoor patrol cooking.

The essence of cast iron cooking on a dutch oven, is to heat from the top. The heavy cast iron lid provides excellent heat conductivity.

Cubs team up for cooking.

Cub participating the cooking activity is crucial. We want to make sure the cubs have the opportunity to participate and drive certain segment of the activity.

Cubs learn how to get water for fire distinguishing.

Problem solving is the key part for boosting cub’s confidence.

Fire safety demo.
Sausage BBQ and Roasting Corns.

Part of Webelos’s cast iron chef requirement -> cooking without pot 🙂 It comes together nicely.

Taste Test.

It is hard to beat the food they cooked from their own.

Tin foil is also nice way for cooking over coal.
The dutch oven is very hot.

Safety. We want to make sure the cubs are aware of the sizzling hot dutch oven.

Chili is ready.

Avoid paper/plastic utensils, we encourage cubs to bring their own utensils for conservation.

Heart food.

The chili came out nice. A bit red pepper and cheese made it even better!

AOLs like the chili.
Popsicles!

Webelos and Bears enjoying treats after a hard day of work.

Cleanup

No trace left behind. Everybody helped!
